In February of 2009, Stephen and Kim Kassaras partnered together with Rich Amador (brother-in-law) to create Dependable Hood & Duct Cleaning Company, LLC. While operating his own restaurant and contracting to have his own commercial kitchen exhaust system cleaned, Steve saw that this service business could become his next entrepreneurial endeavor. By 2011, Dependable Hood & Duct was operating with a three-man-crew working full time. This is also when Steve & Rich decided that they would become experts with the NFPA 96 Fire Code Standards and began training and seeking certification for this.
Steve and Rich quickly learned that the kitchen exhaust cleaning (KEC) industry was plagued by inconsistent standards, poor oversight, and lack of accountability. Dependable Hood & Duct endeavored to change this, which came through education. All Dependable Hood & Duct employees are NFPA 96 Fire Code certified, with all managers certified nationally and in the City of Boston. Dependable Hood has spent many hours working with local fire departments, fire suppression companies, commercial kitchen exhaust installers, insurance underwriters and each of their customers in educating them to the world of kitchen exhaust cleaning and the NFPA 96 Fire Code. In October 2017, they decided to tackle another obstacle in the kitchen exhaust cleaning world with their second business, FilterShine New England. Today, these companies work hand in hand with 21 employees, half of them being family members, to serve their customers. This family run business plans to grow with the next generation as Levi Amador and Elias Kassaras take the lead.
